Pink Slime

Here’s something disgusting found in fast food… Pink slime, also known as lean finely textured beef (LFTB) and boneless lean beef trimmings (BLBT), is a beef-based food additive that may be added to ground beef and beef-based processed meats as an inexpensive filler. It consists of finely ground beef scraps, sinew, fat, and connective tissue, which have been mechanically removed, in a heated centrifuge from the fat into liquid fat and a protein paste. Basically this stuff is straight nasty and we will try and focus on some of this as well in our presentation. This sums up my thoughts exactly: http://boston.barstoolsports.com/random-thoughts/pink-slime-legitimate-concern-or-just-another-phony-scare-invented-to-keep-us-from-being-happy/  “All I need is coffee in the morning, beer when I get home and the cable to be working to keep me happy.  And once a week or so, I want a burger.  Nothing exotic.  Nothing weird. Just give me a couple of pounds of quality ground beef, fresh rolls and the grill on my back deck and I’ll take that over the priciest gourmet meal any foodie can buy anywhere.” –Jerry Thornton

Book Club Presentation

Our group is not 100% sure on our focus but we know how we want to present our ideas. We are going to usual a lot of visual aids such as PowerPoint and hopefully some useful video clips from movies and documentaries that relate to Fast Food Nation. We want to effectively be able to tell everyone the horror stories that were portrayed in this book.

Done...Disgusted

After finishing Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser the one word I have to say is…disgusted. I know all of my last blogs said the same thing but I just have no other way of describing how I feel I mean between the descriptions of what is in the food and how it is made I’m purely mortified. And yet I know I will still eat it? What gives? Why would I? After reading that, HOW could I? I honestly don’t have an answer I just know I will. Maybe because I have for so long and just don’t feel like changing my ways? That may be the only explanation. Either way I may never look at it the same but I know I will eat it. Overall an eye-opening book and I think I may just go get the movie.

Fast Food...Nasty

So I’m almost done with Fast Food Nation and I just want to say…really? We still all eat this stuff even after time and time again we are told of all the horror stories or how bad everything is for you? Just Disgusting if you ask me but I shouldn’t even be speaking because I eat it too. I guess the overall convenience and sometimes-good taste just trumps all. Even though it shouldn’t.  I’m not saying I want the industry to shut down or anything because in all reality its what this country is thriving off of it seems, but this book just brings to the light how gross it really is. I don’t know what my group and me will focus on just yet for our presentation but I’m leaning towards overall health and wellness of the customers.

Finally...

So I finally got my book to read (Fast Food Nation) good thing Amazon didn’t take forever to get it to me or anything. Anyways I got a chance to catch up on some reading and after starting it I can’t believe I eat the crap fast food places serve. I was literally thinking what the hell? And of course I found myself at McDonald’s at 2 am Sunday morning and didn’t even think twice. Im not sure what it is about the fast food industry that just gets people dragged in. maybe just because its so easy and fast. Either way I cant wait to get deeper into this book.

Fast Food Nation

Im not fully 100% sure why I chose to read Fast Food Nation but after looking into it a little more I think I made the right decision. It should be a good read and sounds more interesting than the other choices given.

Assignment #1

For my interview I was thinking about talking to the President of the company I work for. I work for Moran Environmental Recovery and we do a lot of oil spill clean ups and asbestos work. To learn more you can visit http://www.moranenvironmental.com/ As for the man I want to interview his name is Brian House. He has been in the environmental industry his entire life and worked hand-in-hand with Barrack Obama to clean up the BP oil spill in the Gulf. He is a very successful individual and I think it would be an interesting piece.
